Bicommunal Initiative in Brussels Promotes Peace

A bicommunal initiative aimed at promoting peace and interaction between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots took place in Brussels, at the 3rd European School. The initiative was presented by Andrea Constantinou and Fezile Osüm, members of the bicommunal association 'Kayles', who share a similar background and life experiences. Both are from Nicosia, studied Law in the United Kingdom, and faced common difficulties in learning English. Their presentation focused on their parallel lives, highlighting the similarities and differences resulting from the division of Cyprus. Fezile grew up in a middle-class family that emphasized education, while Andrea grew up in a family that considered education as freedom. Both had a passion for dance and continued their studies in the United Kingdom. Their meeting in Brussels highlighted their shared experiences and the possibility of a different life if the division did not exist. This initiative aims to encourage understanding and cooperation between the two communities, promoting peace and interaction. The event took place through the TEDxYouth@EEB3 platform, providing a platform for exchanging ideas and promoting dialogue between students and teachers from various EU countries.
