Nicolas Emilieou Elected Judge of the ECHR

Nicolas Emilieou has been elected a Judge to the European Court of Human Rights by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, representing Cyprus. His term will be nine years and will begin in three months. Mr. Emilieou has extensive legal experience and has served in various important positions, including Plenipotentiary Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the European Union and the United Nations, as well as Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has also served as Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union since October 2021. His election is a significant recognition of Cyprus and its legal tradition.
