The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, announced a series of important decisions that will be made today by the Council of Ministers. These include the expansion of housing schemes, the amendment of the Constitution to strengthen law enforcement in tackling crime, and granting the right to vote to descendants of displaced persons in local elections. The expansion of housing schemes aims to provide financial assistance to more citizens for housing acquisition. The government has already invested over 300 million euros in affordable housing. The constitutional amendment will strengthen the police and law enforcement agencies in combating crime, based on the recommendations of the FBI team that was invited to Cyprus. Finally, granting the right to vote to descendants of displaced persons in local elections fulfills a pre-election promise by President Christodoulides and will allow them to vote based on both their place of residence and their place of displacement.
