OSAK Clarifies Position on Diagnostic Centers Bill

The Federation of Associations of Patients in Cyprus (OSAK) issued a clarifying announcement regarding its position on the bill concerning diagnostic centers, responding to recent speculation. OSAK emphasizes that patient safety and the quality of healthcare services are its primary goals. It considers the physical presence of a doctor during the operation of the centers necessary, but differentiates this need depending on the type of examination. Specifically, the presence of a radiologist is deemed necessary for specialized examinations such as CT and MRI scans, as well as invasive procedures. Additionally, it proposes the physical presence of a doctor of another specialty to address any complications. OSAK reminds that the responsibility for the correctness of referrals and patient safety lies with the radiologist, while in certain low-risk examinations the physical presence of a radiologist is not necessary, as long as evaluation and supervision remain the responsibility of the center's responsible radiologist.
