Cyprus MEPs Divided on Ukraine Resolution, Criticism of Zelensky's Silence on Cyprus

Three out of six Cypriot MEPs voted in favor of a European Parliament resolution regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which condemned Russia and called for stricter sanctions. Loukas Fourlas, Michalis Hadjipanayiotou, and Kostas Mavrides voted in favor, while Giorgos Georgiou was absent, Geadis Geadi abstained, and Pheidiás Panagiotou voted against. Mr. Panagiotou, known for his opposition to releasing funds for Ukraine, is being asked to explain his position. Simultaneously, criticism is directed towards Volodymyr Zelensky for not mentioning the Turkish occupation of Cyprus by those who support the Russian invasion of Ukraine, deeming the criticism hypocritical.
