Leaked Video Raises Shadows Over Campaign Finance and Access to Presidential Office

A video has leaked from an X (formerly Twitter) account showing covertly recorded conversations at the Presidential Palace, involving the Head of the President's Office, Charalambos Charalambous, former minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, and businessman Giorgos Chrysoshoos, CEO of Cyfield. The conversations concern potential violations of the 2023 campaign finance limit, with references to cash payments. Mr. Lakkotrypis is heard saying that to exceed the one million euro limit, “sometimes you have to rely on cash.” Furthermore, the way investors gain access to the President is discussed, with references to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) offers as a means of approach. Mr. Chrysoshoos reportedly describes his close relationship with the President, stating that he can communicate with him directly and frequently.
