Tender for Contractors for Vasilikos Terminal, Scenario for FA in 2030

DEFA has decided to launch a tender for the pre-selection of contractors for the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal project in Vasilikos, as well as to request approval of funds for hazard studies. This decision was made during the meeting of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, where delays and the use of consultants were discussed. The President of DEFA, Giorgos Asiegalis, informed the committee that a six-month extension was granted to the company Technip to complete the project design. He also mentioned that the valve system and nitrogen production unit have been installed on the floating storage and regasification unit "Prometheus" in Malaysia. The MP of DISY, Kyriakos Hadjigiannis, raised the issue of consultants, requesting an investigation by the Auditor General regarding potential irregularities. The Auditor General, Andreas Papakostantinou, clarified that the audit concerns the organization and not the consultants, however, he acknowledged that the responsibility for selecting the consultants lies with DEFA. According to RAEK, the worst-case scenario is that the arrival of natural gas in Cyprus will not happen before 2030, which will incur additional costs.
