An investigation is underway by OKYPY into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 72-year-old woman at the General Hospital of Larnaca, following a complaint from her relatives. According to the complaint, the woman waited five hours to be examined by a doctor, was diagnosed with sepsis, and admitted to the Infectious Diseases Unit, where she passed away the next day. The deceased's granddaughter states that they were informed of her grandmother's good condition shortly before receiving a call about her death, questioning the provision of adequate care and medication. The family argues that there were no indications of impending death and that the cause of death was recorded as a urinary infection. They criticize the lack of adequate staffing in hospitals, which affects the quality of care. OKYPY Spokesman, Pambos Charilaou, responded to the allegations by calling for calm and awaiting the results of the investigation. He argued that the woman was examined by various doctors, underwent tests, and received the necessary medical care, including CPR. OKYPY states that the room was monitored by a camera and that all necessary actions were taken. It confirms that death was due to urosepsis and acknowledges the need for continuous improvement of health services, but notes that complaint rates are comparable to those of other modern hospitals.
