Too Many Medical Schools - Warning for Doctor Education in Cyprus

The Cyprus Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (CYQAA) expresses serious concerns about the increasing number of Medical Schools in Cyprus. It believes that the number of schools is already excessive in relation to the population and the possibilities of providing quality clinical education. The CYQAA points out that the utilization of existing clinical structures is not sufficient to support new schools, as this affects the quality of education and patient safety. It cites a letter from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) confirming this view. The establishment of a new school requires new clinical structures and beds, as well as international collaborations.
