Published January 20, 2026, 20:22

In Cyprus, the number of deaths from the flu has reached thirteen in the last 2.5 months. The latest victim is a 54-year-old man with underlying health conditions. Six of the deaths have occurred in the last three days, with the victims being mostly elderly people over the age of 80. Dr. Elisavet Konstantinou stated that the new, highly contagious strain K is behind most of the cases. Positively, a large percentage of the population, over 75% of the elderly and vulnerable, has been vaccinated. Due to the increase in cases, there has been a decrease in blood donors, and the Ministry of Health is calling on citizens to donate blood.
