Damianou: Three Strategic Pillars of the EU Presidency's Digital Agenda

The Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nikodimos Damianou, presented the Cypriot Presidency's digital agenda to the European Parliament's Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee (IMCO). The agenda is based on three strategic pillars: strengthening Europe's digital capabilities and technological leadership, enhancing cybersecurity and trust in the digital environment, and international cooperation. Damianou emphasized the crucial role of the IMCO Committee in shaping EU policies for the internal market and protecting consumers online. He highlighted the need for a fair, enforceable, and consumer-focused digital market, as well as the importance of the single market for the effectiveness of services provided to citizens. The Presidency intends to simplify administrative procedures and the regulatory framework, prioritizing the promotion of digital simplification files (Omnibus). Particular emphasis is placed on supporting start-ups and scale-ups, enabling them to grow throughout the European Union and become global leaders. Regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Presidency will promote the relevant regulation while exploring options to enhance Europe's competitiveness in the digital sector. The Cypriot Presidency aims to maintain an active and fast pace in promoting digital policies, following the example of its predecessors.
