Municipalities 'Accountable' Due to Spraying - Complaints, Legislation and Beekeeper Concerns

Municipalities in Cyprus are under scrutiny for the use of herbicide spraying in public areas, as there are complaints of violations of legislation and risks to public health, biodiversity and the environment. The Movement of Ecologists and the Chlorakas Environmental and Cultural Group have reported the Municipality of Paphos for extensive spraying without a permit and without following the instructions of the Department of Agriculture. The Department of Agriculture is conducting an investigation to determine whether fines will be imposed. Legislation requires a signed permit from an agronomist for the use of pesticides and prohibits spraying in sensitive areas.
