The European Parliament's agenda is currently focused on two key issues: Greenland and the Mercosur agreement. MEPs Giorgos Georgiou (AKEL) and Michalis Hadjipantela (DISY) discussed these matters on the Alpha Kalimera show, presenting differing viewpoints. Giorgos Georgiou voiced concerns about the potentially destabilizing actions of Donald Trump, emphasizing that Europe must remain united and strong to confront the challenges posed by a superpower like the US under his leadership. He warned of the risks this poses, including for Cyprus. In contrast, Michalis Hadjipantela focused on the Mercosur agreement, highlighting potential benefits for Cyprus. He explained that the European Parliament prevented Ursula von der Leyen from signing the agreement before its approval by the Parliament itself, and that the agreement will be thoroughly examined over the next three years. Mr. Georgiou described the referral of the Mercosur agreement to the European Court of Justice as a significant victory, aiming to protect education and consumers. This referral seeks to determine whether the agreement is compatible with the Treaties of the European Union.
