Teachers' Union Condemns Violence and Aggressive Behavior in Schools

The OELMEK (Cyprus Secondary Teachers' Union) has expressed strong concern over incidents of violence and aggressive behavior recently recorded in schools in Limassol and Larnaca. Teachers have been targeted with verbal abuse, threats, and attempts at physical violence, even within the school premises. OELMEK emphasizes that these incidents are not isolated but are part of a broader problem affecting the climate of safety and trust in schools. The organization calls on relevant authorities to take substantial measures to address the phenomenon. In its announcement, OELMEK seeks to highlight the problem, support teachers, and promote a dialogue on protecting the school community. OELMEK also mentions that it conducted a poll regarding events in the Middle East and their impact on Cyprus, with 1,275 participants. OELMEK recognizes the need for immediate and effective action to address violence in schools in order to ensure a safe and supportive environment for students and teachers.
