Erhurman Points to Stagnation in Crossing Issue

T/C leader Tufan Erhurman expressed stagnation in the issue of opening new crossing points and improving existing roadblocks. He emphasized that no solutions are expected from the two leaders, even on issues that would facilitate the daily lives of T/C and G/C. Erhurman referred to the problems facing citizens at the roadblocks, especially at Agios Dometios, and to the proposals for Mia Milia, Louroujina and Pyroi. In his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Erhurman stated that the issue of new crossings should not be used to gain economic, military or political advantage. He also mentioned that an increase in crossings could negatively affect the economy in the occupied areas, but the priority remains to facilitate daily life and contact between the two communities. Erhurman stated that the widening works at Agios Dometios on the T/C side have been completed and is awaiting the completion of the corresponding works from the G/C side as well as the deployment of adequate personnel for control. Additionally, there is a delay in the issuance of vehicle documents at the Deryneia and Astromeritis crossings. For Mia Milia and Louroujina, Erhurman reiterated the proposals for opening crossing points, while for Pyroi he proposed the construction of a new road. In conclusion, Erhurman called on all parties to take responsibility for advancing the process of resolving the Cyprus issue.
