Greece Will Not Engage in War, Says Foreign Minister

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis stated during a press conference in Berlin that Greece has no intention of becoming involved in the ongoing war. He strongly condemned attacks on Greek commercial vessels in the Black Sea, emphasizing the danger to crew safety. Mr. Gerapetritis highlighted the geopolitical importance of the Eastern Mediterranean and the need to strengthen cooperation to address regional challenges, expecting solidarity from allies like Germany. Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the Minister stressed the criticality of maintaining freedom of navigation, as it handles approximately 1/4 of global oil trade. He urged all parties to avoid aggressive actions and proposed the creation of a broader international alliance under the auspices of the UN to protect navigation. Concerning the situation in Lebanon, Mr. Gerapetritis expressed concern and reaffirmed Greece's support for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its efforts to maintain stability and engage in direct negotiations with Israel. Finally, regarding the West Bank, the Foreign Minister reiterated Greece's position on the establishment of a Palestinian state as the only viable solution for achieving lasting peace, while simultaneously guaranteeing the security of Israel.
