Violanta Factory Fire: Gas Leak, Safety Concerns, and Ongoing Investigation

A fatal propane leak caused the tragedy at the "Violanta" biscuit factory, resulting in the death of five women. According to the Fire Department, the leak had been ongoing for months, creating dangerously high concentrations of gas in the underground area. Ignition was caused by a spark from the factory's electromechanical equipment. Serious questions are also being raised about the existence and functionality of gas detectors at the factory, as well as any maintenance work that may have been carried out on the pipelines. A report by TEEM states that there were no gas detectors, the pipes were buried instead of being exposed, and the tanks were in the wrong position. The investigation is ongoing to clarify responsibilities and determine whether safety protocols were followed. Importantly, the gas shut-off solenoid valves functioned, cutting off the propane supply circuit.
