Farmers' Tractors Reach Eiffel Tower in Paris Protests

Farmers' tractors entered Paris and reached the Eiffel Tower, escalating their protests over the difficulties facing the agricultural sector in France. The farmers are primarily protesting against the Mercosur free trade agreement and the management of lumpy skin disease, while generally demanding simplification of administrative procedures and relaxation of European standards. Police had banned tractors from sensitive areas, such as the Champs-Élysées and the presidential palace, but farmers managed to bypass the restrictions. The Rural Coordination states its determination to highlight its demands at any cost, even with arrests, while the president of the union in Occitanie, Eloa Nespoulo, stressed the need for the voices of farmers to be heard. This mobilization is a continuation of the agricultural protests that began in the winter of 2024.
