Venezuela: Thousands Rally in Caracas Demanding Maduro's Release

Thousands of supporters of ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro – who was captured along with his wife during the US military operation on January 3rd – demonstrated in Caracas on Friday, demanding his release. The demonstration took place on the anniversary of the fall of the dictatorship of Marcos Perez Jimenez (1948-1958). While interim President Delcy Rodriguez has sought closer ties with Washington, her government continues to demand the return of Nicolas Maduro and his wife, who remain imprisoned in the United States. The protesters expressed their opposition to the US operation that led to Maduro's arrest, calling it illegal and unfair. They also emphasized Venezuela's right to its oil reserves, which President Donald Trump is trying to control. Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello stated that the return of Maduro and his wife is the biggest goal of the period, while assuring that Rodriguez has the full support of the ruling party. The case of Maduro remains a significant issue in international relations, with Venezuela facing a period of political uncertainty and economic crisis.
