Η πλήρης εφαρμογή των μέτρων και η τήρηση των κανόνων της ΕΕ σε ολόκληρη τη χώρα είναι ο μόνος τρόπος για να βγούμε από αυτή την κρίση του αφθώδους πυρετού γρήγορα, χωρίς σημαντικές απώλειες ζώων και σοβαρές οικονομικές ζημίες για τους κτηνοτρόφους, δήλωσε ο Ευρωπαίος Επίτροπος Υγείας και Ευημερίας των Ζώων, Όλιβερ Βαρχέλι, μετά τη συνάντησή του με τον Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας και άλλους αρμόδιους την Παρασκευή στη Λευκωσία.
Πρόσθεσε ότι για τις φάρμες όπου έχει εκδηλωθεί κρούσμα, οι κανόνες είναι πολύ σαφείς και πολύ αυστηροί, ορίζοντας ότι όλα τα ζώα θα πρέπει να θανατωθούν και το κρέας τους δεν μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί, ενώ απηύθυνε έκκληση προς όλους όσους δεν έχουν σχέση με τον τομέα να μείνουν μακριά από τις περιοχές όπου έχουν εντοπιστεί κρούσματα της νόσου.

Varhelyi: Full Implementation of Measures is the Only Way Out of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Crisis
European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Oliver Varhelyi, stated that the full implementation of measures and adherence to EU rules is the only way to overcome the foot-and-mouth disease crisis in Cyprus. Following his meeting with the President of the Republic and other officials, Mr. Varhelyi emphasized that for affected farms, the culling of animals and the non-use of their meat are mandatory. He also appealed to those not involved in the sector to avoid areas with outbreaks.
