Bartholomew on Ukraine: Just Peace, Not Diplomatic Injustice

The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, stressed the need for a just peace that takes into account the will of the Ukrainian people. During a memorial service for the victims of the war, the Patriarch emphasized that peace cannot be imposed, but must be the result of dialogue and respect for national sovereignty. He warned that a peace imposed without the participation of the Ukrainian people constitutes an injustice under a diplomatic guise. Bartholomew expressed his solidarity with the Ukrainian people and assured them that the Church will not abandon them, continuing to pray for the dead, the prisoners and those who fight.
