Presidential Spokesman Denies Opacity Regarding Controversial Video

Viktor Papadopoulos, Director of the Press Office of the President, responded to questions regarding the video that was made public and caused political uproar, denying any opacity. He argued that the fund of the Social Support Body for Students was created by a previous government and operates with transparent procedures, under the presidency of the First Lady. Regarding the criticism of lack of transparency, Mr. Papadopoulos characterized the references as “slogans,” emphasizing that the funding is approved by a established council. He reiterated the government's commitment to transparency, stating that he will leave the Presidency with “clean hands.” Referring to businessman Chrysoschos, Mr. Papadopoulos denied any communication with President Christodoulides, noting that Mr. Chrysoschos sent a congratulatory message after the President's election, which did not receive a response. Finally, regarding the 2023 election campaign, Mr. Papadopoulos admitted an excess of 19 thousand euros, which however was declared legally, as provided by law. Mr. Papadopoulos's position aims to restore the government's reputation and dispel doubts about the management of funds.
