Increase in Urban and Wildfires – 10 Deaths and 15 Injuries in 2025

The Cyprus Fire Service responded to a total of 13,401 incidents in 2025, of which 7,154 were fires, representing a 4.94% increase compared to 2024. The increase is more pronounced in urban (4.31%) and wildfires (8.81%). During the year, 10 deaths and 15 injuries were recorded, mainly in the province of Limassol. The Fire Service will have 13 aerial vehicles available for the fire season. Analyzing the data, Nicosia recorded the highest number of incidents, followed by Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and Famagusta. A significant percentage of wildfires (22.8%) occurred after the closure of fire stations, highlighting the need for 24-hour operation of these stations. In parallel, the Fire Service carried out 20 rescues and 5,259 special services, including 1,691 rescues from elevators. 100 entertainment venues were inspected island-wide, with 53% deemed unsatisfactory regarding fire safety measures. Additionally, checks were carried out on 80 industrial premises, with 73.75% not complying with fire safety measures. According to the law, the primary mission of the Fire Service is search and rescue, fire prevention and extinguishing, and providing assistance in cases of natural or technological disasters. It also plays a significant role in the fire protection of buildings and installations.
