Achilleas Aimilianides on Sylouris-Tziovanis Acquittal: 'Very Negative Decision for the Prosecuting Authority'

Legal expert Achilleas Aimilianides described the acquittal of Dimitris Sylouris and Christakis Tziovanis in the 'golden passports' case as a very negative decision for the prosecuting authority, namely the Legal Service. According to Mr. Aimilianides, the decision of the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia speaks for itself, as the Legal Service failed to present sufficient evidence to prove the serious charges that had been brought. The Court acquitted the two defendants of all charges, as none of them could be proven. The 170-page decision dismantles the charges that had been leveled against them. The Court also criticized the prosecuting authority for the absence of essential witnesses without any explanation. The acquittal provoked strong reactions and expressions of joy from the relatives of the accused.
