African Dust: Problem or Untapped Natural Resource?

The article examines the African dust that affects Cyprus, beyond the negative consequences for air quality and health. It analyzes how the dust, which contains minerals and trace elements, can act as a natural fertilizer for agriculture, improving soil fertility and encouraging the growth of new crops adapted to arid conditions. Furthermore, the dust positively affects marine life by promoting phytoplankton growth. At the same time, it is mentioned that the dust poses a challenge for renewable energy sources but also an opportunity for developing new cleaning technologies for photovoltaic systems. The author emphasizes the need for targeted research and collaboration between universities, research centers, and industry to exploit African dust as a natural resource and develop innovative solutions.
