Foot-and-Mouth Disease: 13,000 Animals, 11 Cases, Culling in Progress

As of today, 11 cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been recorded in the province of Larnaca, affecting over 13,000 animals. The culling and burial of infected animals has already begun. The spread of the virus appears to be linked to the delay in confirming the first case, as the virus was active in some units for about two weeks before confirmation. New cases are located within the initial 10-kilometer surveillance zone, however, exclusion and spraying points have been expanded. Authorities are conducting sampling and checking for illegal movements from the occupied territories, while the Cyprus Police are investigating suspicions. The situation is considered controlled, as the spread is limited to the Larnaca area.
