Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak Affects 13,000 Animals in Cyprus

The outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus has affected 13,000 animals, mainly in the province of Larnaca. 11 cases have been recorded, one in a cattle unit and ten in goat and sheep units. The process of culling and burying infected animals has begun. The spread of the virus is linked to the existence of an active focus in some units for two weeks before the confirmation of the first case. Authorities emphasize that the situation is under control and there is no risk to public health, but checks and monitoring continue.
