Vaccinations against foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus are at an advanced stage, with a vaccination rate of 85% in cattle and 45% in sheep and goats, according to Dr. Dimitris Epameinondas, President of the Pan-Cypriot Veterinary Association. In the free province of Famagusta, cows in livestock farms have been vaccinated, while 60% of sheep and goats have received the vaccine. The effort focuses on completing vaccinations in Famagusta and completing the first dose in Larnaca. In total, there are approximately 500,000 sheep and goats and 90,000 cattle in Cyprus. Livestock farms have received particular attention, as pigs are particularly vulnerable to the virus. Efforts are also being made to obtain vaccines for pigs from Germany.
