Styloianou's Suicide: Two Police Officers Testify - 'Forced to Grow Up in an Abusive Environment'

Two police officers testified in the Nicosia District Court regarding the case of the suicide of 14-year-old Stylianos Konstantinou, which took place in September 2019. The case includes 218 charges against 11 individuals, including the minor's parents and officials from the Social Welfare Services, for events and omissions that led to the child's death. The charges against the father concern physical and psychological violence, while against the mother, failure to report incidents of violence. The officials of the SWC are accused of negligence of duty, with two of them having already pleaded guilty. Separately, a police sergeant is charged with negligence of duty. In his testimony, a police officer stated that Stylianos' mother had reported incidents of violence from her husband in 2010, but the case was classified as 'non-criminal'.
