Olguin Presses Leaders for Progress on Confidence-Building Measures

The Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Maria Angela Holguin, met with President Christodoulides and expressed concern over the lack of progress on Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs). Ms. Holguin emphasized that without progress on CBMs, it will be difficult to convene a high-level (5+1) meeting on the Cyprus issue. Following the meeting with the President, Ms. Holguin will also meet with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Erhurman, hoping for a positive development. The discussion at Wednesday's joint meeting will focus on the methodology for the four points proposed by Erhurman. Holguin reiterated that the organization of a 5+1 meeting directly depends on the progress made by the two leaders on the issue of CBMs.
