Roads in Cyprus Open Only to 4x4 Vehicles and Those with Chains Due to Ice

Due to ice and light snowfall, several roads in Cyprus are only accessible to 4x4 vehicles or those equipped with anti-slip chains. Specifically, the roads Platron – Troodos, Karvouna – Troodos, Prodromou – Troodos, Kakopetrias – Karvouna, Pedoulas – Prodromou, Prodromou – Lemithou, and Kakopetrias – Pinewood – Pedoulas require special vehicles. Other roads, such as Kalopanagiotis – Moutoulla – Pedoulas, Kakopetrias – Karvouna, Pedoulas – Kykkos – Kampou, Kykkos – Tsakkistra, and Kampou – Orkontas – Kato Pyrgos, are slippery due to ice or light snowfall. The Police have issued a statement urging drivers to exercise increased caution, especially in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, as well as in higher altitude regions, where road slipperiness is more likely during the morning hours. It is recommended to comply with the traffic code and road signs to avoid accidents. This situation was caused by low temperatures and rainfall, which led to the formation of ice on various sections of the road network. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and informing the public about changes in traffic conditions. Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas and be prepared for potential delays. Additionally, it is recommended to carry appropriate equipment, such as chains, in case they need to be used.
