Several Complaints Before the ADELPE, Says DG to the Finance Committee

The Director-General of ADELPE (Cyprus Public Accounting Oversight Board), Panos Prodromitis, informed the House Finance Committee about the cases pending before the Authority. He pointed out that there are several cases at various stages, arising either from inspections or from complaints by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC). Mr. Prodromitis stated that the number of cases is significant, with some at the disciplinary committee stage for possible penalties, others under investigation, and others awaiting the appointment of an investigating officer. He stressed the need to strengthen human resources for more effective investigation of cases. The ADELPE budget for 2026 is balanced, with revenues and expenditures of €1.9 million, the same as in 2025. Funding comes from 20% from the Republic of Cyprus and 80% from recognized Accounting Bodies. The Authority has signed a memorandum of understanding with its US counterpart, which facilitates the raising of funds from American companies and enhances Cyprus's credibility. In addition, in 2025, a disciplinary sanction was imposed for the first time on an audit firm, with a fine of €60,000. A consultation has also begun to amend the Auditors' Law with the aim of a faster disciplinary process.
