Aradippou: Burial of Animals Positive for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Begins

The burial procedures for animals from a livestock unit with confirmed cases of foot-and-mouth disease have begun in Aradippou. The unit houses over 4,000 sheep and goats, and the burial will follow the protocol established by the Veterinary Services. Vaccination of sheep and goats is expected to begin soon, in collaboration with veterinarians and local authorities. No new cases have been detected until yesterday. Particular attention is being paid to protecting pig farms, as pigs reproduce the virus in large quantities if infected. During a meeting with livestock farmers, the issue of financial compensation was discussed, while one farmer reported inconsistencies in the results of his herd's tests. The Mayor of Aradippou expresses optimism but stresses that much work remains to be done to resolve the problem definitively.
