From Troodos to the World's Ski Slopes - Kyriakos Kyriacou Represents Cyprus at FIS

Kyriakos Kyriacou, a Cypriot and experienced technical representative of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) for alpine sports, is one of approximately 400 worldwide. He also serves as one of 40 internationally certified inspectors for race courses for the past 10 years. His role involves inspecting and approving tracks for international competitions, as well as participating in FIS committees to revise regulations. Kyriakos Kyriacou has observed the effects of climate change on ski resorts, with the need to move race tracks to higher altitudes. He participated in the certification of new race tracks in Lebanon and notes that funding for ski resorts at low altitudes has stopped in Europe. He believes that artificial snow and closed ski resorts, which operate 365 days a year, such as in Dubai, are the future of skiing. He has contributed to the organization of competitions in Dubai and is monitoring the development of ski resorts in countries like Saudi Arabia and Australia.
