From the Notebook: Easy Criticism from the Office, Difficult Reporting in the Field

The journalist distinguishes two main categories of professionals in the field of journalism: those who inform and those who exploit. The first group is in the field, collecting information and taking on the burden of informing the public, while the second is limited to interpreting the work of the first, often without direct contact with events. The second group is subdivided into those who form opinions and those who simply comment on the work of others, without offering substantial analysis. The author expresses his disappointment with the latter subcategory, as he believes that their comments are often based on ignorance and lack of experience from the field. He points out that modern journalism, fortunately, emphasizes the presence of journalists at the scene of events, in contrast to the tendency of some to comment on events from their office, losing their essence.
