From Complaints to the European Court – The Next Step Announced by Annie Alexui

Minister of Justice Kostas Fytiris stated that it is unclear whether the Cyprus Police can travel to Russia to take a statement from Annie Alexui, suggesting the submission of evidence through a lawyer or trusted person. He stressed that the authorities are obliged to investigate any official complaint. Annie Alexui, for her part, questioned the ability of Cypriot authorities to take a statement abroad, arguing that they have no jurisdiction. She expressed strong reaction to the possibility of suspending warrants and threatened to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. Alexui claimed that material was handed over to the police without her consent, causing a rift with her circle. She is considering submitting a written statement through a lawyer to force the authorities to open a case. She also expressed distrust of institutions, including the Attorney General and the process of appointing an independent investigator. Alexui complained that the Authority for the Investigation of Complaints against the Police did not respond to the audio evidence she submitted. Finally, she stated that she does not trust any institutional figure in Cyprus and that she feels safe in Russia, while mentioning that a high-ranking police officer apologized to her.
