Cyprus Records Eighth Consecutive Month of Deflation in December

Cyprus experienced deflation for the eighth consecutive month in December 2025, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreasing by 0.5% compared to December 2024, according to data from the Statistical Service. However, for the entire year 2025, the CPI showed an increase of 0.1% compared to 2024. On a monthly basis, the CPI increased by 0.10 units in December, reaching 117.67 units. The largest positive changes in economic categories were observed in Services (3.1%), while the largest negative changes were in Electricity (-9.4%) and Agricultural Products (-5.8%). Specifically, compared to December 2024, the categories Clothing and Footwear (-7.9%), Restaurants and Hotels (4.9%), Education (3.5%), and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-2.9%) showed the largest changes. Compared to November 2025, the most significant changes were recorded in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (0.8%) and Transport (-0.4%). During 2025, compared to 2024, the categories Clothing and Footwear (-6.5%), Restaurants and Hotels (4.7%), Education (3.7%), and Recreation and Culture (3.1%) had the most significant fluctuations. The largest positive impact on the change in the CPI in December came from Food Service Providers (0.53), while the largest negative impact came from Electricity (-0.53) and Fresh Vegetables (-0.51).
