Cyprus Court Rejects Paphos Mayor's Appeal Against Suspension

The Administrative Court has rejected an interim application by Phaedon Phaedonos to overturn the decision to suspend him from his position as Mayor of Paphos. The decision was based on the fact that the police investigation into an allegation of rape against the applicant concerns a serious felony, making his continued tenure incompatible with the public interest. According to the law, suspension is automatic when a felony with a prison sentence of more than three years is being investigated. The judge ruled that the conditions for suspending the decision were not met, as the investigation is ongoing and the applicant's suspension is lawful. The application was dismissed, confirming the validity of the decision to suspend the Mayor of Paphos.
