Το βρετανικό αντιτορπιλικό «Dragon» αναχώρησε από το Πόρτσμουθ της νότιας Αγγλίας με κατεύθυνση την Κύπρο ώστε να συμβάλει στην άμυνα των βρετανικών βάσεων στο νησί.
Θεωρείται ένα από τα πλέον προηγμένα πλοία αντιαεροπορικής και αντιπυραυλικής άμυνας στην Ευρώπη. Κύρια αποστολή του είναι η προστασία από εναέριες απειλές (μαχητικά αεροσκάφη, ντρόουν και βαλλιστικούς πυραύλους).
Διαθέτει το αντιαεροπορικό σύστημα Sea Viper με πυραύλους Aster 15 και Aster 30, καθώς και το προηγμένο ραντάρ SAMPSON, που επιτρέπει ταυτόχρονη παρακολούθηση και εμπλοκή πολλαπλών στόχων. Είναι επίσης εξοπλισμένο με πυροβόλο 114 χιλιοστών, συστήματα εγγύς άμυνας και δυνατότητα μεταφοράς ελικοπτέρου (Wildcat) για αποστολές επιτήρησης και ανθυποβρυχιακού πολέμου.
