Iran Responds to Trump: Desalination Plants Will Be Targeted

Iran has responded to threats from Donald Trump, stating that if its fuel and energy infrastructure is attacked, it will target the corresponding infrastructure of the United States and Israel in the region, including desalination plants. The reference to desalination plants is considered an indirect threat to the Arab countries of the Gulf, which are almost entirely dependent on them for drinking water. This response comes as a reaction to Trump's 48-hour ultimatum, threatening to “level” Iran's power plants if it does not open the Strait of Hormuz. Iran is also threatening massive cyberattacks that could paralyze the banks and energy networks of the US and its allies. At the same time, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman called on the “attackers” to stop the attacks in order for Tehran to demonstrate restraint. Iran retaliated against the US-Israeli attacks by striking southern Israel, injuring 100 people, 11 seriously. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that US and Israeli attacks on Iran would “increase significantly” this week. The situation in the region remains tense, with growing fears of further escalation of the conflict.
