Greece Dismisses Turkey's Claims Regarding Aegean Islands

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed as unfounded today's claims by Turkey regarding the status of the Greek islands in the Eastern Aegean. The ministry's spokesperson, Lana Zochiou, stressed that unilateral claims about the demilitarization of the islands have been repeatedly rejected. The status of the islands is governed by the Treaties of Lausanne, Montreux, and Paris. Greece retains the right to defensive arrangements, given the state of war in the region. The country calls for prudence and composure, rather than ineffective statements.
