Journalists' Union Reacts to 'Downgrading' of Press Credentials by Cypriot Presidency

The Union of Cyprus Journalists (UCJ) is strongly reacting to the 'downgrading' of press credentials by the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Presidency requires a press card issued by the Press and Information Office to accredit Cypriot journalists, ignoring the press card issued by the UCJ. The UCJ has informed the European Federation of Journalists, which has submitted a protest to the Cypriot authorities, which remains unanswered. The UCJ argues that both cards have the same validity and recognition in Cyprus and calls on the government to explicitly recognize the UCJ press card in all accreditation procedures. It denounces the 'scandalous non-recognition' of the UCJ card and the lack of response from the Deputy Minister for European Affairs.
