UNESCO Expresses Concern for Cultural Heritage in the Middle East

UNESCO has expressed concern for the protection of cultural heritage sites in the Middle East, following US-Israeli bombings in Iran. Specifically, the Golestan Palace in Tehran sustained damage from debris and shockwaves as a result of an airstrike near Arg Square. Golestan Palace, a historic complex that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built around a garden and acquired its characteristic richness in the 19th century. UNESCO has communicated the geographical coordinates of the monuments to all parties involved in order to avoid further damage, while also reminding of international conventions for the protection of cultural property during armed conflict.
