Cyprus Highlighted in Dendias-Heappey Meeting

During the meeting between Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and British Defense Secretary John Heappey in London, particular emphasis was placed on the security of the Republic of Cyprus. Mr. Dendias informed his British counterpart about Athens' initiatives in the field of security, including cooperation with Bulgaria, and Greece's increased interest in Cyprus. The two ministers discussed the importance of Greek-British cooperation in addressing geopolitical challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean, especially due to the war in Iran. The importance of innovation and new technologies in the defense sector was highlighted, with the Hellenic Center for Defense Innovation (ELKAK) playing a central role. Finally, the securing of sea lanes of communication was discussed, with Greece giving particular importance to maintaining freedom of navigation. Mr. Dendias stated that there is no possibility of sending a Greek ship to the Strait of Hormuz.
