The Cyprus Association for the Protection and Welfare of Cats conducted a surprise inspection at the home of a woman accused of cat abduction and keeping them in poor conditions, but found the animals living in excellent conditions. The Association's President, Dinos Agiomamitis, stated that he found the cats in an environment with beds, feeders, toys, and access to a yard. The woman provided medical care to kittens found in poor condition. The Police were reportedly searching for the woman, but Mr. Agiomamitis stated that he located her easily and communicated with her in English. The Association frequently receives reports of animal abuse and forwards them to the relevant authorities, such as the Animal Police and veterinary services. However, Mr. Agiomamitis emphasized that the Animal Police are understaffed, with only 15 personnel for the whole of Cyprus, making it difficult to control and deal with incidents. He stressed the need for more inspectors from the Police and veterinary services to ensure animal welfare. Furthermore, it was emphasized that the relocation and abandonment of animals are illegal, as animals tend to return to the places they consider home, and their survival in distant areas is doubtful. At the same time, the disappearance of ten cats in Limassol was reported, with the resident complaining about indifference from the Police, who refused to record the incident.
