European Parliament Work Review for 2025

The review of the European Parliament (EP) work for the year 2025, presented by Thea Pieridou, Head of the EP Office in Cyprus, states that the EP consists of 720 MEPs representing the 27 member states of the European Union and working in 24 languages. The MEPs are divided into 8 political groups, covering the entire ideological spectrum, while some do not belong to any group. The political groups determine the issues discussed in plenary and can submit amendments. Plenary is the culmination of the legislative process, which begins in parliamentary committees and political groups. In 2025, following the European elections, the EP discussed and adopted important legislation for the benefit of citizens. Among these, the approval of new rules for road safety, with provisions for novice drivers, the digital driving license, and the revocation of driving licenses. Also mentioned are improvements in market operation and the promotion of digital technology.
