Reciprocity for Checkpoints: Proutzos and Harmancı Seek Solutions

President Christodoulides insisted that the opening of new checkpoints must benefit both communities, while Turkish Cypriot leader Erhurman desires mutual benefit. The UN Special Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin, has called on the leaders to focus on mutually beneficial solutions. Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Proutzos proposed opening a road crossing at Agios Ilarionos to address congestion at Agios Dometios, where delays are frequent due to periodic staffing of controls and stricter checks due to Schengen. Turkish Cypriot Nicosia Mayor Mustafa Harmancı welcomed Proutzos' proposal and emphasized the two mayors' efforts to find common solutions. The two mayors are also trying to find a solution for the location of a bicommunal photovoltaic project. Additionally, the president of the Turkish Cypriot primary school teachers' union called for more crossing points in Nicosia and 24-hour operation of existing ones.
