Unwavering Solidarity with Cyprus and Ukraine Expressed at COSAC Teleconference

Participants in the COSAC teleconference expressed unwavering solidarity with Cyprus and Ukraine, within the framework of the parliamentary dimension of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. The teleconference, which included delegations from the parliaments of EU member states, the European Parliament, as well as candidate and third countries, concluded yesterday, Monday. The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Charis Georgiades, emphasized the need for a stronger and more autonomous EU, capable of ensuring security and acting effectively on the international stage, given the crisis in the Middle East and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, highlighted Cyprus's strategic role as a pillar of stability in the region. The Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Nicolas Ioannides, presented the progress in implementing the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency. As part of the teleconference, a discussion was held on Ukraine and European security, with speakers Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze and Charles Goerens, where views were exchanged on the war in Ukraine and the role of the EU. Furthermore, the crisis in the Middle East was discussed with Dimitris Kairidis as the speaker. Marina Nikolaou, a member of the House delegation, pointed out the risks from the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East following the attacks on Iran and Iran's retaliatory measures, emphasizing the dangers to the region.
