“Chain of Failures” – AKEL Calls for Removal of Panayiotou and Implicates Christodoulides

AKEL is calling for the resignation or dismissal of the Minister of Agriculture, Panagiotis Panagiotou, accusing her of a “chain of failures and incompetence” that, according to the party, is harming the country. AKEL’s criticism focuses on a series of issues within the Minister’s portfolio. Specifically, AKEL refers to the devastating fires in the mountainous region of Limassol last summer, which it describes as the largest fire disaster in the history of Cyprus, and blames the Minister for the lack of accountability and effective management. In addition, the party criticizes the water problem, arguing that instead of improving, it has worsened due to lack of planning and projects. AKEL also refers to the crisis in livestock farming due to foot-and-mouth disease, accusing the Minister of delaying the implementation of measures and attempting to shift the blame to the farmers themselves. The party believes that the Minister and the government are not taking responsibility. The Spokesperson for AKEL, Giorgos Koukoumas, wonders what else needs to happen for the Minister and the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, to proceed with her removal from office.
