AKEL Sees Slowdown in Cyprus Talks After Trilateral Meeting

AKEL expresses concern over a slowdown in the Cyprus settlement process following the trilateral meeting with the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy and the leaders of both communities. According to AKEL, there was no substantial progress made to break the deadlock and lead to the resumption of meaningful negotiations. The party emphasizes the need to intensify contacts between the leaders and negotiators, despite the difficulties, and highlights the importance of Confidence-Building Measures, such as opening new roadblocks, although these cannot replace negotiations. AKEL reiterates its position for the resumption of talks from the point where they were interrupted in 2017, respecting the negotiating record and completing the negotiation of the remaining issues based on the Gutierrez Framework.
